Living Literacy
Literacy involves “reading the word and the
world” in
a variety of contexts. Individuals need literacy skills to obtain and
use information effectively, to act as informed players and to manage
interactions in a variety of contexts whether the context is making decisions
about health care, parenting, managing household finances, engaging in
the political process or working.
The Government of Alberta recently
published Living
Literacy: A Literacy Framework for Alberta's Next Generation Economy.
Viewing literacy in it's broader sense the document notes "Literacy
is not just about reading and writing."
CSN believes
that science is integral to daily life and that discerning
consumers of scientific information are a necessity in the world of technological
change that we live in, where climate change, pandemics and energy usage
are top of mind.
